ShogiGridBase is a browser board for shogi — Japanese chess. You open the page and the nine-by-nine grid is already set, with piece stands on both sides. No account wall, no lobby, no detour through another site before move one.
Captured pieces stay in hand here. That is not a cosmetic detail; it is the rule that makes shogi feel different from western chess. The local AI answers on your device through a Web Worker, so the main thread stays responsive while you think. Recent games and difficulty stay in this browser on purpose — one game on one domain, without a mall of other titles stacked underneath.
Who this is for
People who searched “play shogi online” and meant a playable board. Learners meeting drops and promotion for the first time. Anyone who wants Beginner / Medium / Strong practice without a ranked room, a nickname prompt, or a download first.
If you already know western chess, you will recognize the king hunt, then trip on the hand and the drop. That is fine. The board stays up while you read.
